The Dirty work

Get outta here you stinky ass smelly piece of shit A big and heavy pile of engine crap Diesel leaving the boat for good

Soon after I got the boat I hauled it to rip out the engine. Jay, Tom and Paul came down from Bellingham and the J-pod from Seattle (Jenn, Jim, Jess, Jeremy) got into the act too. You can click on a picture to enlarge the view.

We started by sawing off the shaft with a sawzall and removing every engine mount bolt one by one with large wrenches, liberal amounts of WD-40 and a lot of force. Once the engine was free we put it on the cabin sole and waited for the forklift to come and hoist it out of there. The top pic captures the jubilant moment when the engine left the boat. The next pic is all the associated crap that got pulled out along with the engine - the tank, exhaust pipe, oil drip pan, wires, hoses, etc. All tolled we ripped out about 400 pounds of shit.

Ripping the engine out of your boat is the best thing you can do. I could go on and on about the reasons why it's a safer and faster and a more seaworthy boat but my friend Jay has articulated all of my reasons and more on this page of the Oar Club web page.
